Heart

Character Development

Guardian of the Vision

How many times do you see a young person and think to yourself, "If only that young man (or woman) would live up to his potential!"

Thankfully, in many young people, this is not a permanent thing since many are still maturing and come to achieve potential a little later than others.

However many people, across all age ranges, do not fulfill their potential because of some character flaw.  A person with a penchant to lie, flippantly promise, laziness and any number of other vices, will never achieve full potential.

The strong, virtuous character guards the vision that God has placed in a person's heart.  Strong character allows the individual to pursue the vision to fruition without the fatal flaw that plagues so many "rising stars."

The character traits that we emphasize for leadership are: humility, loyalty, integrity, courage and respect.

Servant Leadership

The more people you lead, the more people you serve

The Heart aspect of Leadership also entails service.  The examples of the essential nature of service in leadership abound...from Christ's example throughout the Gospels to research conducted by Jim Collins and published in his book, Good to Great.

Our students are urged and required to participate in service to others through participation on student teams, leadership training events, student council and partnership with groups outside of TKA through ministry projects.
